On 12 May 2021 Alison Banks completed her second and final term as SDT Solicitor Vice-President, a Director of the SDTAL Board and a member of the SDT Policy Committee. In her six years in the role Alison has made a significant contribution to the wider management of the Tribunal.
Following consultation, the Master of the Rolls has issued a new Protocol for appointments to the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal. Following publication of the Protocol, the SDT now intends to commence the recruitment process for new Tribunal Members later this year.
Spring 2021 sees the retirement of four highly respected Tribunal members. Cindy Barnett, Steve Marquez and Jane Martineau all retire in March and Patrick Booth in April.
The Tribunal's offices and courtrooms at Gate House are currently closed due to the Covid-19 situation.
In late 2019 the Tribunal published its Strategic and Operational Plans for 2020-2023. At the time the plans were written, we could not have begun to imagine how 2020 would unfold, and the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic would have on the Tribunal and on thousands of other UK businesses.
On 14 December 2020 the SDT's Policy Committee, led by the President of the Tribunal Edward Nally, published the 8th Edition of its Guidance Note on Sanctions.
As a result of the current Covid-19 situation, the Tribunal's offices at Gate House remain closed to the public until further notice. The staffing team are continuing to work remotely. The vast majority of hearings for the foreseeable future will be held remotely so please do not attend Gate Hou
Lubna has been a highly valued member of the SDT clerking team since May 2007 . Having been elected as Deputy Vice-President of the Law Society on 14 October 2020 Lubna will be leaving us in order to take up her new office.
Following the closure of the Tribunal’s offices and courtrooms, from 7 September 2020, the majority of our hearings continue to be held remotely. Please do not attend the Tribunal unless you have been notified that your hearing is taking place at Gate House.
